Course Description:

Pre-requisite: Post-Construction BMP Inspector Certification

During this four-week hybrid course, participants focus on best management practices while preparing to renew their Post-Construction BMP Inspector Certification. Review key issues and best practices, identify new and changing regulations in the field.

Course Topics:

Areas to be covered include technical elements of stormwater management practice function and performance, as well as scheduled maintenance tasks that are required to ensure these installed practices are working as intended. Stormwater BMPs to be covered include:

  • regulations
  • wet and dry ponds
  • stormwater wetlands
  • bioretention and infiltration practices
  • manufactured devices
  • underground detention
  • swales and buffers
  • parking lot BMPs
  • permeable materials
  • vegetated systems
  • shorescaping and floating wetlands

Course Requirements:

This program is offered as a four-week online course, followed by a mandatory in-person field day, and an online certification exam.  To be successful in this hybrid course, active participation in all discussions, quizzes, and other web-based methods of participant-instructor interaction, along with hands-on participation tasks in field day activities, and successful completion of the final exam are required for re-certification. Plan for 1-3 hours per week with some weeks longer than others.

Technical Requirements:

To participate fully in this course, you will need:

  • An active email address for the individual participating in the course.
  • A desktop computer or laptop (recommended): Canvas is available on mobile devices, but some content may appear differently.
  • Access to a high-speed internet connection.
  • A web browser compatible with Canvas: Chrome and Firefox are recommended.
  • Headphones or speakers (closed captioning also available).
  • Computer skills including Internet browsing, using email, typing, downloading files, and basic troubleshooting.
