Full course description

Course Description:

All volunteers wishing to enter data into the SC AAS Database must keep an active certification to generate high-quality and reliable data. This means that volunteers must recertify each year, either by attending a workshop in person or by completing this online recertification course. The online course includes modules for Freshwater, Macroinvertebrate, and Tidal Saltwater Monitoring. The modules consist of videos and mini quizzes to review monitoring protocols, and each concludes with an open-book certification test. You can complete the course at your convenience, stopping at any time and returning where you left off—just be sure to finish by the course closing date!

Recertification Requirements:

With the completion of this course and a score of 80% or higher on the final certification tests(s), your volunteer certification in the appropriate protocol(s) will be renewed for one year. In addition to the successful completion of the certification test(s), you must submit the Online Recertification Module Completion form for each online recertification module that you complete. You will be able to continue sharing data in the SC Adopt-a-Stream Database.

Course Topics:

Freshwater Stream Monitoring

Macroinvertebrate Monitoring

Tidal Saltwater Monitoring

Course Details:

This course is for current SC Adopt-a-Stream volunteers who have previously completed an in-person workshop. Active volunteers must renew their certifications annually to continue posting data in the SC Adopt-a-Stream Database. This course does not count for an initial certification in any protocol.

All volunteers should complete the Introduction module first, followed by the module(s) for the appropriate protocol(s) in which you are recertifying. The second module is for Freshwater monitoring, the third module is for Macroinvertebrate monitoring, and the fourth module is for Tidal Saltwater monitoring. Each module takes 1-2 hours and concludes with an open-book test, which must be passed with a score of 80% or higher.

This online course is open from November 1st, 2024 - December 31st, 2024
