Course Description:
Host a Great Southeast Pollinator Census (GSEPC) event in your community this year and help make every pollinator count ! This self-paced course will provide videos and marketing materials and guide you to the educational resources need ed to plan a successful GSEPC event and engage participants in this fun and impactful citizen science project.
This course is designed for organizations and groups interested in hosting a Great Southeast Pollinator Census event, including:
- Schools and youth programs
- Libraries and Community Centers
- Community and demonstration gardens
- Public gardens and arboreta
- Nature centers and conservation organizations
- Master Gardeners and Master Naturalists
- Garden centers, nurseries, farms and Agriculture Tourism Businesses
- Homeowner associations
- Garden clubs
Whether you're planning a small neighborhood count or a large community event, this course will help you create an impactful educational experience that encourages people to connect with pollinators and contribute to citizen science!

Through a series of recorded webinars and downloadable resources, you will discover:
- Why pollinators are important & how citizen science can make a difference for pollinator conservation.
- How the Great Southeast Pollinator Census works.
- How to select a suitable location to host a GSEPC event and tips for a safe, successful event.
- Marketing and outreach materials to promote participation.
Course Acknowledgment:
The Great Southeast Pollinator Census is a citizen science project created by the University of Georgia. The Census was founded by Becky Griffin, University of Georgia Extension Community and School Garden Coordinator, and began as a pilot project to help educators and community gardeners learn about pollinators and insect ecosystems. Today, the Census spans multiple southeastern states and continues to inspire people of all ages to observe , learn about, and support pollinators.

To participate fully in this course, you will need:
- An active email address for the individual participating in the course.
- A desktop computer or laptop (recommended): Canvas is available on mobile devices, but some content may appear differently.
- Access to a high-speed internet connection.
- A web browser compatible with Canvas: Chrome and Firefox are recommended.
- Headphones or speakers (closed captioning also available).
- Computer skills, including Internet browsing, using email, typing, downloading files, and basic troubleshooting.
