Course Description:

Participants in this course will learn the basic principles of creating and establishing a wildlife habitat in their own backyard.  This course will cover topics that includes basic needs for your garden, food, shelter, water, and space requirements that are needed for attracting wildlife. 

Learning Objectives:

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Identify the four basic needs of wildlife. This being food, water, shelter, and space. 
  • Describe the different food requirements needed to attract various wildlife species to their backyards. 
  • Identify different natural shelters and why they are needed to attract wildlife to their yards.
  • Describe the different water requirements needed to attract various wildlife species to their backyards. 
  • Identify space requirements and types for creating a suitable backyard wildlife habitat.

  • Module 1 - Basic Needs of Wildlife
  • Module 2- Food Requirements for Wildlife and Native Plant Recommendations
  • Module 3- Shelter Requirements for Wildlife
  • Module 4- Water Requirements for Wildlife
  • Module 5- Space Requirements for Wildlife

Course Requirements:

To successfully complete the course participants must watch all the videos and score 8/10 on the final quiz.

To participate fully in this course, you will need:

  • An active email address for the individual participating in the course.
  • A desktop computer or laptop (recommended): Canvas is available on mobile devices, but some content may appear differently.
  • Access to a high-speed internet connection.
  • A web browser compatible with Canvas: Chrome and Firefox are recommended.
  • Headphones or speakers (closed captioning also available).
  • Computer skills including Internet browsing, using email, typing, downloading files, and basic troubleshooting.
