Course Description:

The South Carolina New and Beginning Farmer Program (SCNBFP) hybrid course combines scheduled online workshops and scheduled face-to-face learning workshops and Program Graduation in Lexington, SC. In this 8-month long, comprehensive farm-business cohort program, SCNBF brings together dozens of leading experts/faculty/Extension staff throughout Clemson University, as well as other resource and educational providers offering a variety of lectures and different business plan activities which provide participants with the tools, knowledge and skills necessary to be successful entrepreneurs.

Course Topics:

Core workshops include topics such as...

  • Business concept/plan development
  • Financial and risk management
  • Legal & regulatory issues
  • Marketing strategies
  • Personal assessment
  • Introduction to federal, state, and local agriculture resources

Course Requirements:

To complete the course, minimum attendance of eight (8) out of the ten (10) scheduled workshops is required.

  • The ten events include the 9 Core workshops as well as Graduation
  • You must be present for the full day to receive credit. (For online workshops, this includes having your video on at all times, other than scheduled breaks.)
  • You must complete a non-graded homework assignment for each workshop to receive credit

To participate fully in this course, you will need:

  • An active email address for the individual participating in the course.
  • A desktop computer or laptop (recommended): Canvas is available on mobile devices, but some content may appear differently.
  • Access to a high-speed internet connection.
  • A web browser compatible with Canvas: Chrome and Firefox are recommended.
  • Headphones or speakers (closed captioning also available).
  • Computer skills including Internet browsing, using email, typing, downloading files, and basic troubleshooting.
